This is the standard weekly-ish clean: the things that make a home look and feel looked-after. It is not a deep clean (that’s a separate checklist), so there’s no oven interior or grout scrubbing here.
Work top to bottom and dry to wet in each room: dust high surfaces first, wipe, then do floors last so falling dust gets picked up. Times assume an average one-bathroom home; the counter scales if you change the size.

Tips that save real minutes
Spray first, scrub later
Put cleaner on the shower and toilet at the start and do another job while it works. Most bathroom products need a few minutes of contact time; the label will say how long.
Carry a caddy
Walking back to the cupboard for each product quietly adds minutes. Keep one caddy with a multi-surface spray, bathroom cleaner, cloths and a scrub brush.
Never mix bleach with ammonia or acids
Bleach plus ammonia (some glass cleaners) or acidic cleaners (some toilet and limescale products) releases toxic gases. Use one product, rinse, then the next.

How long does it take to clean a whole house?
For an average one-bathroom home, this checklist adds up to about two and a half to three hours of hands-on time, including a load of laundry. Each extra bathroom adds about 30 minutes; each extra bedroom 20–25. Our time calculator gives a number for your home.
What order should I clean a house in?
Declutter first, then clean top to bottom and dry to wet: dust, wipe surfaces, clean bathrooms and the kitchen, and finish with floors, working from the far end of the home toward the door.
How often should I use this checklist?
Weekly for bathrooms, kitchen surfaces, bed linen and floors in busy areas. Dusting and appliance fronts can go every two weeks if time is tight. For a schedule that spreads it across the week, use the generator.
